CBSE Announces Universal Postal Union 2024 International Letter Writing Competition

CBSE has released an important circular regarding the Universal Postal Letter Writing Competition for CBSE school students. The Department of Posts has taken the initiative to organize the Universal Postal Union (UPU) 2024 International Letter Writing Competition for young individuals.

The main goal of this Universal Postal Union 2024 International Letter Writing Competition is to foster the art of letter-writing among the youth, encouraging clear expression and thoughtful communication. Additionally, it aims to enhance international camaraderie among the participants.

UPU International Letter Writing Competition Details

The International Bureau (IB) of the UPU will oversee the competition and select three top entries from each UPU member country.

The winners will receive prestigious Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals from the UPU, along with certificates and other commemorative prizes.

The gold medal recipient might also get a chance to visit the UPU headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, or receive an alternative reward, as determined by the UPU’s discretion.

At the national level, the Department of Posts will also recognize the top three submissions, awarding them cash prizes and certificates. The best national entry will represent India in the UPU’s international competition.

Participants can write their letters in English or any language listed in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

The Universal Postal Union 2024 International Letter Writing Competition details and participation rules can be found in annexures I and II. Participation in this event is entirely voluntary.

Schools are encouraged to organize this competition for interested students in coordination with the Nodal Officers of their respective circles or regions, similar to the approach taken in 2023.

DETAILS OF 2024 INTERNATIONAL LETTER WRITING COMPETITION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Subject of UPU Competition

“At 150 years old, the UPU has served people around the world for more than eigh generations. The world has changed enormously since then. Write a letter to future generations about the world you hope they inherit.”

Age for Competition

It is open to participants for age 9-15 years.

Content and Form

Composition must be presented in the form of Letter.

Date and Time of Universal Postal Union 2024 International Letter Writing Competition

The competition shall be organized by the schools in such a way that the entries shall reach the Circles by
20.03.2024. Further, the circles shall evaluate all the entries and best three entries should reach the Directorate by 10.04.2024.

Language for UPU Competition

English or any language listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.

Prizes for UPU Winners

Prizes (at Circle level)	Prizes (at National level)
First Prize: Rs. 25,000/- and a certificate	First Prize: Rs. 50,000/- and a Certificate.
Second Prize: Rs. 10,000/- and a certificate	Second Prize: Rs. 25,000/- and a Certificate.
Third Prize: Rs. 5,000/- and a certificate	Third Prize: Rs. 10,000/- and a Certificate.

This initiative provides an excellent opportunity for young minds to express themselves creatively and connect with peers around the globe, promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation for different cultures and perspectives.
