Starting from the academic session 2024-25, universities and colleges will no longer be able to use NAAC A and A+ grades for admissions or recognition. Instead, institutions will simply be classified as ‘recognized’ or ‘not recognized’. This move aims to prevent misleading students during admissions and to ensure a transparent evaluation of educational quality.

New Standards for NAAC Recognition:

Under the revised rules, the process of granting NAAC recognition will focus on the quality of education provided by the institutions. The assessment will be based on set standards, with rural and remote educational institutions also receiving due importance in the evaluation process.

One Nation-One Data Portal:

In a significant step towards consolidating educational data, the One Nation-One Data Portal will become fully operational by December 2024. This portal will encompass information from higher education to school education, simplifying data access for various stakeholders, including international ranking organizations.

The state government will contribute school education data, while higher educational institutions like IITs, NITs, IIMs, and medical colleges will directly provide their information.

Inclusion of IIMs and IITs:

For the first time, prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs will come under the purview of NAAC. This inclusion, subject to the final opinion of the IIT Council and IIM, is intended to unify Indian institutions at the international level.

These reforms represent a significant stride in improving the transparency and quality of education in India, aligning the country’s educational institutions with global standards.
